Fylde youngsters aged 13 to 18 years won't be too bored for much longer on weekend evenings, thanks to a new Fylde Coast YMCA project and funding through Sport England North West and the Fylde Local Strategic Partnership.
Free sport and recreational sessions are set to kick off on Friday and Saturday evenings between 7pm and 9pm, commencing Friday 18th July at a variety of venues across the borough including Ashton Gardens in St. Annes, Bridges Playing Fields in Warton and Lytham YMCA.
Each session will be co-ordinated by two fully qualified coaches from the YMCA Sports Development team.
Dave Lean, Fylde Director of Leisure, Fylde Coast YMCA said: "The £27,000 funding will assist in the delivery of the sessions for the next 12 months initially. We wanted to provide activities for young people at times when they might normally be stuck for something to do in their area.
"The sessions are open to boys and girls of all abilities and we hope to not only crack the boredom, but also encourage more young people in the area to have fun taking up sports and physical activity."
Christine Miller, Fylde's Local Strategic Partnership Manager, added, "We are delighted to be supporting this multi-agency approach to the provision of positive activities for our young. Physical exercise is part of our drive for a healthier community and the discipline of team working gives the young people an excellent foundation as they grow and develop."
