Major Facelift for Fleetwood YMCA

We are delighted to announce that Fleetwood YMCA leisure centre is in the early stages of a major upgrade. The development work, which will see the centre transformed into a state of the art facility, will last for the next couple of months.

Thanks to various pots of funding that have been secured, a total in excess of £900,000 will be spent on the upgrade. This will help to create an outstanding fitness facility with modern changing areas for the local community of Fleetwood to enjoy for many years to come.

The development will see a purpose-built dedicated new health and fitness centre, better changing facilities, an upgraded reception, modern public areas and improved heating for the swimming pool.

It is the first time that the centre has been refurbished since it first opened in 1984 – a decade after the swimming pool was officially open to the public.

This will provide better facilities for a more comfortable workout session in the studio which will be fitted out with high-tech free weights, resistance and cardiovascular equipment. Television and audio equipment will complete the new-look and provide the finishing touches adding to the overall atmosphere.

Separate changing rooms will be upgraded into communal changing villages which will provide individual cubicles for privacy and enclosed rooms for families and single sex groups. Specially adapted disabled changing facilities will also be built.

Finally, the reception and public areas will be upgraded following a cash injection of £112,000 which has been generously donated by The Lofthouse Foundation.

Over the next few weeks, we will endeavour to keep the sports hall and fitness suite open to all members of the public. However, there will be short periods where the swimming pool will have to be closed in the interests of public health and safety. Our main aim is to offer minimal disruption to all centre users during the development period, whilst enabling the enhancements to run smoothly.
